LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Monday confirmed the bails of PML-N Rana Sanaullah Khan, Capt Muhammad Safdar (retired), son-in-law of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and 27 other PML-N works in a case of attacking a police team. Rana Sanaullah and Safdar did not appear and court allowed them one-time exemption from personal appearance.
The counsel of Rana Sanaullah and others argued that the police implicated the suspects in the FIR without holding their identification through CCTV footages of the occurrence. They said the case was politically motivated and beyond the facts.
The prosecutor opposing their stance said the attack on the police team by the suspects was a planned action. He said statements of ten injured personnel had been recorded and the police required the custody of the suspects for investigation. He asked the court to dismiss the bail petitions.
The court, however, confirmed the bails of the suspects and asked the prosecution and the defence to establish their cases in the trial proceedings. Chung police had registered the FIR against the leaders and workers of the PML-N.
