ISLAMABAD: Terming the implementation of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) an issue of public importance, the Federal Cabinet on July 11, 2012 decided to convene a special Cabinet meeting in two weeks to discuss this issue in detail.
The NRO implementation issue titled "issue of public importance- criminal misc application no.486 of 2010 in criminal appeal no 22 of 2002 ETC" was on the Cabinet agenda as an additional item.
Official documents exclusively obtained by Business Recorder, reveal that Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf informed the Cabinet that his Principal Secretary had received a letter from Attorney General for Pakistan regarding criminal "miscellaneous application no.486 of 2010 in a criminal appeal no.22 of 2002, etc."
According to the Prime Minister, he directed his Principal Secretary to seek the advice of the Ministry of Law and Justice and asked Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H. Naek to brief the Cabinet on this issue.
The Law Minister, according to the documents, stated that he had received the letter from the Prime Minister's office on July 9, 2012 and being new to the job, he and the Secretary Law and Justice required some time to fully, prepare the case.
According to him, "he shall be able" to brief the Federal Cabinet on all aspects of this very important and sensitive issue, which has international ramifications, once the Law Ministry and he himself have examined it thoroughly.
