LAHORE: The Secretary-General of the city chapter of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Khawaja Imran Nazir, who is also an MPA, was arrested by police on Saturday in a case regarding a clash outside the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office during a hearing of Maryam Nawaz’s case.
The police stopped the vehicle of Imran Nazir at Model Town Link Road and told him that the car had been wanted to them in the NAB office clash case.
There occurred an exchange of words between the police officials and Imran, and later he was arrested.
SP of Model Town, Dost Mohammad, said police intercepted Nazir at the Model Town Link Road after receiving confirmation from the Lahore Safe City Authority.
His vehicle had been identified through the Safe City cameras in the NAB attack case on August 12.
The vehicle has been handed over to the Faisal Town Police Station.
Sources claimed that Khawaja Imran had been shifted to police centre Chuhang.
He said he was not afraid of such tactics of the government and claimed that the PML-N rally on December 13 would be a historic one.
He claimed that his arrest was an “act of revenge”, adding that he was "not afraid of such tactics".
It may be noted that a case was registered against PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz and some other party leaders and workers at the Chuhang police station on the request of NAB against the attack on its office. Rana Sanaullah, Muhammad Zubair, Javed Latif, Bilal Yasin, Imran Nazir and others were nominated in the case registered under Sections 353, 427, 148 and 16 of the MPO.
Maryam Nawaz in a tweet termed the arrest a "preemptive attack" before the upcoming Lahore rally.
"PML-N Lahore Secretary General Khawaja Imran Nazir has been arrested. Make no mistake, this arrest is a preemptive attack before upcoming Lahore jalsa which they know will be the last nail in their coffin,” claimed Maryam.
Senior PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique told the media that the government was resorting to revengeful activities against its opponents. Former speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, said the PML-N workers, supporters and voters were fully charged, and such arrests were strengthening their struggle.
