This is apropos a Business Recorder news item “Power sector PTI govt’s Achilles heel” carried by the newspaper on Tuesday. According to it, while outlining the power sector as a major challenge for the government, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Tuesday that now is the time to show performance as “there is no excuse for learning and inexperience”. The prime minister was speaking at Performance Agreements of Ministries for the Year 2020-21 signing ceremony where he reportedly said, among other things, that his government was initially not fully familiar with the state of affairs in different departments especially in the power sector.
It is quite true that the PTI government literally wasted several months in cobbling a coalition government after it came to power following the 2018 general elections. Insofar as the power sector is concerned, it is in fact has been every successive government’s Achilles heel since the 2008 general elections.
