Jamaat-e-Islami 'thanks' US for cutting aid

21 Jul, 2012

Naib Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Professor Khurshid Ahmad thanked the US House of Representatives for cutting by half the so-called US aid to Pakistan on the plea that Pakistan is untrustworthy and it has not surrendered the person guilty of treason in Pakistan Dr Shakil Afridi to his masters in USA.
"It is a slap in the face of the political and military leadership of Pakistan, which has opened US and Nato supply routes in an abject surrender to US pressure and in violation of the unanimous Resolution of the Parliament demanding an unconditional apology, total stoppage of drone attacks and other violations of Pakistan sovereignty and without renegotiating in writing a comprehensive arrangement for future relationship between Pakistan and US of America protecting our national interests," he said this in a press statement issued here on Friday.
He observed: "Out-going US Ambassador Cameron Munter and other US civilian and military leaders and also US Congressmen are arrogantly repeating the old mantra of 'do more' and harping on the method of 'safe havens'. The old game of bullying and blackmail is once again in full force."
According to Professor Khurshid the only honourable course for Pakistan is total refusal of accepting any economic and military aid from America, stopping the supply routes and use of our air space with immediate effect; and take the Parliament and the nation on board to have a unanimous stand on this issue.
"Pakistan's economic team has failed to give the nation economic policy, which could set our own house in order and make self-reliance possible", he said and added that "Pakistan's maximum dependence on US Aid-economic and military is under 2 percent of the GDP and this we can make from our own resources provided we adopt a right economic policy and guiding principle for good-governance and curb corruption with firm hand-the three factors which are at the root of our current crisis," he concluded.-PR
