WWF-Pakistan, PEC organize smog awareness campaign

LAHORE: WWF-Pakistan, in collaboration with Pakistan Engineering Congress (PEC), conducted an awareness drive for traffic wardens and the civil society here on Tuesday.

The event was organized to establish a consensus on the roles, responsibilities and actions required to ensure clean air for all, especially traffic wardens who are on the front lines regulating traffic and are directly exposed to polluted air.

Nazifa Butt, Senior Manager, Climate and Energy Programme, WWF-Pakistan, talked about WWF’s continuous efforts to re-create awareness about air pollution and its repercussions, not only through digital platforms, but also face-to-face seminars with key stakeholders. Air pollution not only remains a global environmental threat but also has immense economic implications.

Nimra Zareen, Assistant Manager, Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), also shared insights on the prevailing condition of air pollution in the country. She highlighted the current initiatives taken by the organization in managing waste in Lahore and actions to tackle the issue of waste burning, which releases toxic gases exacerbating health problems.
