PARTLY FACETIOUS: The Hazara massacre

Updated 06 Jan, 2021

“So Sheikh Rashid was sent to appease the justified anger and protest of the Hazara people after yet another brutal killing in Mach….”

“He came bearing money for each death, our tax money, but did not have the mandate to decide on their justified demand for resignations of the provincial government….”

“No can do – not even the Khan I reckon…”

“Right besides if The Khan begins to fire the relevant minister or special assistant or advisor or for that individual to quietly step down on moral grounds for appalling performance/event, then Sheikh Rashid was not the right man to send – he did not step down when he was Railways Minister and rail accidents reached a historic high …”

“That sadly is a policy of the present government that is the same as prevalent during previous administrations – be it Zardari sahib or Nawaz Sharif or…”

“Right but in The Khan’s case somehow the situation appears to be exacerbated – we have a gas crisis with the industrial sector crying foul, the industrial sector that has been extended a hefty incentive package, and the man on the street is unable to cook at home…”

“Be logical – if you are on the street then you have no home and you can then go to the langar khanas where you can get food….”

“Reminds me of Marie Antoinette, if the people don’t have bread why don’t they eat cake?”

“Don’t forget they beheaded her.”

“Indeed ….why doesn’t Umar Ayub take over from Nadeem Babar and…”

“The circular debt has risen by 1.1 trillion rupees during Ayub’s tenure so perhaps not the right man.”

“Leave him alone please – he is suffering, I can tell as his moustache is under considerable stress, it has begun to droop, though Sheikh Rashid’s moustache remains trimmed and upright though he failed to convince the Hazara people that he would be able to catch the perpetrators and ensure no such incident in future - and while he returned on the PM’s plush plane in comfort the Hazara people spent another cold night outdoors….”

“The Khan needs to revisit the strengths of his team and re-adjust – Sheikh Rashid is very good at hurling insults so he should be in the Information Ministry, Shaukat Mehmud a bright reasonable man should head the Ministry of Interior because that requires difficult negotiations, and given the bill passed by the US, the Malala Yousafzai bill I propose her for education cause she can make sure that the world invests more in our education system for which we don’t have money, Hafeez Sheikh should head the interprovincial committee – he loves setting up committees and sub committees and…”

“Who gets finance then?”

“I would give it back to Umer…Umer has the capacity to listen to good advice unlike Sheikh…”

“But you know I would still vote The Khan in spite of the economic issues that continue to prevail and the reason is that Nawaz Sharif would reappoint Dar and any one is better than Dar – hey even Sheikh Rashid in the finance ministry would be preferable…”

“Don’t get personal…besides you are stupid - supporting an accountant over…over…I am not sure of The Sheikh’s qualifications.”

“He has remained relevant whoever is in power – and whichever side of the chambers he sits - and that’s a big plus for a one party man.”

“Maulana and Maryam eat your heart out!”
