Twelve killed in two separate bombings

At least 10 people were killed and 25 wounded Saturday in a suicide bombing in tribal area, officials said. The attack took place in Spen Khawri, on the border of the Kurrum and Orakzai tribal districts. Mujahid Khan, of the Edhi ambulance service, said the attack had targeted anti-Taliban cleric Maulvi Noor Nabi. "Ten people - including three children - have been killed, and 25 injured," said Khan.
The cleric issued a statement saying he had survived the attack. Nobody took immediate responsibility. Rival insurgent groups regularly target each other in the lawless tribal region where Pakistani forces are trying to eliminate militancy. Earlier, at least three people were killed and seven injured in a separate bomb attack on a van in Upper Dir district of north-western Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, police official Noorul Islam said by phone.
The bomb was planted on the road and was detonated with a remote control device. "The driver and two passengers died on the spot while seven, including three women, suffered injuries," he said. Islam said three victims were in a critical condition. It was not known who carried out the bombing.
