The VLC Media Player will soon be available as an app for smartphones and tablets using Android. An official beta version will be available soon over the Google Play platform, according to VLC developer Videolan. Just like in the computer version, the app will play nearly all video and audio formats and run on all Android variations starting with the 2.1 (Eclair) version.
Depending on the device, high resolution videos with a resolution of 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) can also be played. Users can control the player with a special touchscreen gesture, stream videos from the internet or fade in subtitles.
