KARACHI: The Sindh Energy Department has urged the federal government to notify tariff of five wind projects of Sindh in the gazette. In a letter to the federal Energy Minister Omar Ayub Khan, the Sindh Energy Minister, Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh, said that the tariffs of 5 wind power projects in Sindh had not been notified yet, and so it was requested that for those five projects, tariffs should be notified in the Gazette of Pakistan.
In his letter, the Sindh Energy Minister said that a delegation of local and foreign investors in wind power generation had contacted the Sindh Ministry of Energy and clarified that this practice would discourage investment in wind power generation.
The letter said that the five wind power projects in Sindh awaiting tariff were Norinco International Thatta Power, Iran-Pak Wind Power Pvt. Ltd., Sino Well Pvt. Ltd., Shafi Energy Pvt. Ltd. and Moro Power Company Pvt. Ltd.
Sheikh pointed out that in the Alternative Renewable Energy (ARE) Policy 2019, it was clear that by 2025, the share of renewable energy resources in the country's electricity resources would be 20 percent and by 2030, 30 percent.
He said that in the light of Alternative and Renewable Energy Policy 2019, it was important to encourage renewable energy projects to achieve the targets set in the policy as it would generate very cheap electricity.
