ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Thursday said that Pakistani authorities and the Fund team remain closely engaged in bringing the programme review to positive conclusion
Teresa Daban Sanchez, Resident Representative of the IMF in response to Business Recorder query said that “discussions are going on, both teams working very hard and nonstop to bring the program review to positive conclusion. Discussions are taking place on a virtual format.”
An official of Finance Ministry on condition of anonymity said that power sector and revenue have been the major issues. The government is in touch with the IMF on a daily basis to discuss ‘development and economic situation in the economy’ however he expressed ignorance as to when the second review staff level agreement is likely which is a prerequisite of the IMF board approval for disbursement of the next tranche.
Business Recorder also sent a message to the spokesman of finance ministry but did not get any response from him till filing of this report.
