New Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim on Tuesday convened a meeting of the Election Commission to formally interact with the members of the Commission. The CEC chaired the maiden meeting of the Commission after assuming the charge of the office and discussed different issues with the members of the Commission.
Sources told APP that computerised electoral rolls have been the main topic under discussion as the new CEC has a strong desire to prepare error free electoral rolls that he believes provide basis for free and fair elections. A few other important matters also came under discussion. Fakhruddin G Ibrahim had declared on Monday that his appointment as CEC would be his last mission and last wish to hold free, fair and transparent elections and set a course for strong democracy and democratic institutions.
