The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized 63814.917 kg opium, 47564.24 kg morphine/heroin and 380871.914 kg hashish and arrested 5684 people in the last seven years. The ANF has registered 4158 cases against drug pushers from 2006 to June 30, 2012 and arrested 5684.
In 2006, ANF seized 6331.430 kg opium, 28671.240 kg morphine/heroin, 30248.897 kg hashish and arrested 1041 drug pushers while registering a total of 698 cases, according to data available with Business Recorder. ANF recovered 10219.165 kg opium, 3114.543 kg morphine/heroin, 18655.160 kg hashish, and arrested 937 people and registered 659 cases against drug pushers in 2007.
In 2008, the ANF seized 14783.680 kg opium, 4724.849 kg morphine/heroin, 54637.655 kg hashish, arrested 965 people and registered 716 cases against drug pushers. It was revealed that the narcotics force recovered 7129.437 kg opium, 550.153 kg morphine/ heroin, 63447.147 kg hashish, and registered 526 cases and arrested 742 people in 2009.
In 2010, it seized 8622.158 kg opium, 4731.027 kg morphine/ heroin, 84415.416 kg hashish, registered 643 cases and arrested 827 people. ANF recovered 9282.548 kg opium, 4311.417 kg morphine/heroin, 89873,384 kg hashish, registered 571 cases and arrested 775 people. In 2012 till Jun 30 the ANF seized 7446.450 kg opium, 1041.018 kg morphine/ heroin, 39594.255 kg hashish, registered 349 cases and arrested 397 drug pushers. A senior ANF official said that the rising drug production in Afghanistan is one of the main factors of drug situation in Pakistan.
