Partly Facetious: British HC doesn't reply to queries?

27 Jul, 2012

"Kaira said the cabinet was angered at the unfounded charges levelled against Nadra and passport office, both under the jurisdiction of Rehman Malik of the apple versus orange claim..."
"Don't trivialise the issue. I agree with the cabinet - we must take action and apparently the figure agreed as damages from the offending paper is 10 million though I am not sure if it's 10 million pounds or 10 million dollars."
"Why not 60 million and be done with it."
"Don't be facetious, this is important."
"You know there is one thing I simply do not understand."
"Whatever you may think of Rehman Malik reportedly in possession of more than one Pakistani passport..."
"But they are all Pakistani."
"Indeed, and while you may speculate that this reflects Malik's character whereby he reckons more than one passport may give him greater manoeuvrability or he may simply be exercising the option because he can...remember these words spoken by a US President or..."
"I get it, but anyway, there is one thing that I simply do not get?"
"How much it will cost us as a nation in fighting the case in the UK courts? Implications of awarding the contract to a favourite would certainly surface I reckon and the fees paid..."
"Maybe, but that is not what I was referring to. What I don't get about the Sun newspaper story is its headline where the paper refers to "Visa Terror", now my question is simple: who issued the visa for the UK? Surely it's not the government of Pakistan, we simply issued the passport."
"Did anyone bother to ask the UK High Commission?"
"Yes, and they said they don't respond to queries about individual cases."
"Hey, that's a good one, I wonder if the court in the UK summons them what they would say there."
"Well, they won't invoke national security or national integrity for sure. That is the domain of our governments and bureaucracies. And I guess the offending officer may be eased out of the job and if he has a water tight contract transferred."
