KARACHI: Pakistan Railways Karachi on Sunday claimed to have loaded an unprecedented number of 392 wagons of coal in Yousufwala-destined freight trains in a day that is equivalent to 2.5 times of the average number of wagons loaded.
Officials said the per-day revenue from Yousufwala service normally stands around Rs 9.8 million; however, by loading 2.5 times more in a single day additional estimated revenue of Rs 14.2 million is generated.
The cumulative coal loading of 23,520 tonnes for Yousufwala freight train in a single day is hitherto the highest since inception of this service in January 2017, they said.
Yousufwala coal-laden trains are the hallmark of Pakistan Railways freight service as they cater the fuel requirements of two 1350 MWe coal-fired power plants in Yousufwala. Four trains, each comprising 40 wagons and carrying 2400 tonnage of coal, are destined from Karachi to Yousufwala per day.
