25 shopkeepers held for overcharging

To ensure easy availability of essential items to the consumers, price magistrates conducted 1783 surprise raids at Ramazan Bazaars and markets and recovered a fine of Rs 1,179,700 from them for overcharging. Twenty-five shopkeepers have also been arrested and cases have been registered against them at concerned police stations.
This was stated by Secretary Industries Dr Shujaat Ali while presiding over a meeting regarding Ramazan Bazaars and fair price shops, here on Wednesday. Officers of Food, Industries and other departments concerned were also present on the occasion. The meeting was informed that daily use items were easily available in Ramazan Bazaars and fair price shops. The representative of Food Department informed that 1,639 metric tons wheat was released to flour mills while 163,992 atta bags were sent to Ramazan Bazaars out of which 109,394 atta bags have been sold. The meeting was further informed that 197,334 kilogram sugar was also sold in Ramazan Bazaars. Similarly, as many as 199,318 men and women have benefited from 1532 Dasterkhawans throughout the province.
