Taiwan stocks fall

Taiwan stocks ended 0.69 percent lower on Friday, with Hon Hai losing 3.77 percent after its Japanese partner Sharp Corp reported an operating loss and said it would cut jobs for the first time in 60 years. Rival LCD panel makers in Taiwan also tumbled on the news, with AU Optronics limit-down and Chimei Innolux off 6.75 percent. The main TAIEX index fell 50.45 points to 7,217.51, after opening down 0.65 percent.
Electronics shares were down 0.85 percent. HTC Corp shed 3.65 percent ahead of an investor conference at 0800 GMT when the company will deliver its third-quarter outlook. Financial shares fell 1.1 percent. The Taiwan dollar was down by T$0.019 to trade at T$30.007. Foreign investors were net sellers on Wednesday, offloading T$801 million.
