Spot basis bids for hard red winter wheat in the US Plains mainly stayed unchanged on Friday in a mostly quiet market, with mills well-stocked and spot supply limited. Producers were focused on prospects for rain to replenish drought-hit soils ahead of fall planting of the new winter wheat crop.
A report from Plains Grains Inc, which represents wheat growers through the Plains, said the 2012 HRW wheat harvest was largely completed except for areas in Montana and the Pacific Northwest. Yields reported were ranging from 20-50 bushels per acre. Test weights were ranging from 57 pounds to 62 pounds a bushel and very good protein reports. Kansas City Board of Trade HRW futures ended lower on Thursday, with the KCBT September down 15 cents at $8.69 per bushel.
