Preparations for a special polio eradication campaign have been started in Mardan district keeping in view the increasing number of parents who have refused to get their children immunised against the disease. The special polio eradication campaign would be launched in three phases from August 27 to 29, September 3 to 5 and September 10 to 12 in 40 union councils of the district.
Commissioner Mardan while addressing a grand Jirga said that renowned religious scholars and Ulemas would be invited to convince the parents and assured them that the vaccination is not against the Islam. He said Mardan has emerged as a district where the number of parents who have refused to get their children immunised against polio is very high as compare to other districts of the country. He said that recently a polio case was reported in a six year old girl belonging to the Mardan, which is matter of grave concern.
