BOGOTA: Colombia exported 427,000 60-kg bags of washed arabica coffee in May, the national coffee federation said on Wednesday, down 52% from the 894,000 bags exported in the same month last year.
The fall in exports was caused by blockades across the country, the federation said in a statement. Roadblocks have occurred as part of more than six weeks of national protests against the social and economic policies of President Ivan Duque. The federation did not publish production figures for the month, citing the unusual circumstances.
"As monthly registered production is calculated based on the demand and, on this occasion, taking into account that it would not correspond to real production - due to the substantial alterations in the variables - the figure has not been published," the federation said in a statement.
