ISLAMABAD: Tax advisers have brought to the notice of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) that the FBR's field formations are raising huge frivolous tax demands to the tune of billions against the taxpayers during May and June 2021.
According to a communication of Chairman Pakistan Tax Advisors Association (PTAA) Javed Iqbal Qazi to Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, here on Saturday, the tax advisers community congratulate him for presentation of Federal Finance Budget for Financial Year 2021-2022, and its approval by the National Assembly and achieving the tax target by the FBR set for collection for tax year 2020-2021.
There is another aspect of matter, which requires your kind consideration and favourable action, he said.
Tax advisers understand that huge frivolous tax demand of billions of rupees has been raised by tax officials in May and June, 2021 as such the law and facts of such cases have been flouted.
The tax officials have condemned the taxpayers without providing them opportunity of being heard and made additions u/s 111 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 without serving specific notices in this respect and providing right of fair trial.
This state of affairs has harassed large number of taxpayers whose assessments for tax year 2015 have been amended in the month of May and June 2021. In view of this, the finance minister is requested to issue instructions to the FBR high ups to maintain a system of harmony, justice and fair play in the best interest of the country and to provide protection to all those who are already in the tax net, stated Javed Iqbal Qazi.
