Independence Day celebrated in Hyderabad

The district administration of Hyderabad organised a flag hoisting ceremony at the Zila Nazim Secretariat here Tuesday to mark the country's 66th Independence Day. On the occasion, the personnel of district police presented a guard of honour while the school students sang the national anthem.
Addressing the ceremony, the Divisional Commissioner Ahmed Baksh Narejo observed that the independence day was celebrated as a means of expressing ones love to their country. "We are fortunate people that we are living in an independent sovereign state where people belonging to any religion, sect, culture, ethnicity or language have complete liberty," he added. Deputy Commissioner Agha Shahnawaz Babur said the district administration had organised the event in which the government officers, school teachers and students were participating in great numbers.
"This congregation exudes a feeling of independence and love with the country our forefathers liberated after many sacrifices," he observed. Meanwhile, the citizens of Hyderabad celebrated the day with usual zeal. The public and private buildings were decorated with the flags and flyers while groups of youth took out rallies in different parts of the city.
The universities in Jamshoro and Hyderabad as well as public and private schools also organised events to celebrate the day. At the University of Sindh, flag hoisting ceremony took place where a large number of students, teachers and administration officer participated.
Speaking on the occasion, the PPP Senator Aajiz Dhamrah while addressing the ceremony said that they would have to understand the philosophy of independence which was a great blessing of Almighty Allah. Dhamrah said that Quaid-e-Awam Mohammad Ali Jinnah gave the nation a separate country whereas Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto gave the country its constitution.
The Vice Chancellor University Dr Nazir A. Mughal paid tribute to the founding father of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and philosopher and great thinker Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal. He said that 14th August was a day of great happiness for the nation because it reminded we educate our community to stand united and work for the betterment of education and progress of the university.
He added that Pakistan came into being after thousands sacrifices given by our forefathers, therefore, it was their duty to educate the children and youth about how Pakistan became possible. In the ceremony, the girl students of Panah Ali Shah Model School sang national songs and as a reward the VC and the senator jointly announced Rs 10,000 for their performance.
Earlier, the Pro Vice chancellor Dr Parveen Shah hoisted the national flag at ceremony held at Elsa Qazi Campus Hyderabad while Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Imdad Ali Ismaili and Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Anwar Ali Shah participated as chief guests at their respective Sindh University campuses in Badin, Mirpur Khas and Dadu, respectively.
