A graceful yet magnificent ceremony was held here at Wapda House on Tuesday to celebrate the Independence Day with national zeal. Wapda Chairman Shakil Durrani was the chief guest, who hoisted the national flag, followed by the national anthem by Wapda schools students in consonance with the flag hoisting ceremony at Islamabad.
The ceremony was attended by Wapda Member (Water) Syed Raghib Abbas Shah, Member (Power) Muhammad Qasim Khan, Member (Finance) Syed Nazakat Ali Shah, Managing Director (Administration) Naveed Akram Cheema, Secretary Muhammad Imtiaz Tajwar, other senior officers, Wapda employees and their children. Wapda Chairman also unveiled a huge national flag, especially prepared for the Independence Day celebrations measuring 100 feet x 40 feet and weighing 180 kilograms.
The Chairman also inaugurated the model of a tunnel boring machine placed at Wapda House. Wapda has installed two state-of-the-art tunnel boring machines at the 969MW Neelum Jhelum hydropower project to expedite the project and reduce its construction period by about 18 months. Later, Wapda schools students mesmerised the audience by their Milli Naghmas.
