ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on Monday postponed its meeting in the wake of the sad demise of nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan and senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Pervaiz Malik.
Talking to reporters, PDM spokesperson Hafiz Hamdullah said that the meeting got postponed after a brief sitting to show reverence to "Father of Pakistan's Nuclear Programme" - Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, who passed away on Sunday - as well as to the senior PML-N leader Pervaiz Malik who passed away on Monday.
He said that the meeting expressed their condolences on the sad demises of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan by passing a resolution paying rich tribute to the nuclear scientist for his services to the nation, besides declaring him a national hero.
He said that the meeting also expressed condolences for the bereaved families of Pervaiz Malik and former president and prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan, who passed away on Saturday.
Hamdullah said that the meeting of the PDM would now be held on October 18 in Islamabad to discuss the same agenda, including a joint course of action against the controversial National Accountability (Amend-ment) Ordinance, 2021, price hike and other issues.
He further stated that the PDM would also hold a public meeting in Faisalabad on October 16.
He said that the Monday's meeting was presided over by PDM president Maulana Fazlur Rehman, while Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif attended it via video link.
He said that other leaders who attended the meeting physically including Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Owais Noorani, Prof Sajid Mir and others.
