ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday said that the “technical issue” in the appointment of new director-general Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) would soon be resolved.
While chairing a meeting of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s parliamentary party, the prime minister took the participants into confidence over the prevailing political situation in the country.
According to sources, the prime minister said that there is no truth in the rumours about the appointment of new DG ISI, adding there was some technical issue, which will be resolved soon.
He claimed that “no government had such a wonderful relationship with the military than me”, adding that there was “no misunderstanding at all” between the government and the military.
“There is no misunderstanding between the civil and the military leadership …no one had such cordial relationship with the military than me,” he claimed.
The prime minister had convened an emergency meeting of the ruling party’s parliamentary group at the Parliament House to discuss important national issues especially the delay in issuance of the notification regarding the appointment of the new DG ISI, Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum.
The sources said that several PTI members protested on being suddenly called for the meeting by the PTI chief whip, Malik Aamir Dogar.

The MPs, according to sources, questioned Dogar why an emergency meeting had been called at the last minute, saying it would take time for them to reach Islamabad.
Dogar said that he just communicated what he had been asked to do, adding he knew nothing beyond convening the parliamentary committee meeting and its agenda.
During the meeting, the sources added, some of the members raised concerns over the skyrocketing inflation in the country.
To which, the prime minister was quoted as saying that the government could not make the people understand why there is inflation in the country.
“The inflation has emerged as a major source of concern for governments all over the world, including Pakistan, which is part of the global community and therefore, cannot be immune to such external dynamics,” he was quoted as saying.
However, he said that all-out efforts are being made to control inflation, adding the lawmakers should make the people understand the reasons behind the inflation in their respective constituencies.
“The petrol prices are cheap in Pakistan compared with the other parts of the world, but still we are trying our level best to control inflation,” he maintained.
The sources said that adviser to the prime minister on parliamentary affairs Babar Awan told the meeting that a summary for the joint session had been sent to the president by Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.
