Two MQM workers, cop among eight killed in Karachi

At least eight people including two workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and a police constable were killed in different acts of violence during last 24 hours in the city, police and rescue sources said on Friday. In first incident a cop was killed by unknown armed men riding motorcycles near Bismillah Hotel in Pak Colony area falling in the limits of Pak Colony police station.
He was identified as 40-year old Afzal, who was deployed in Pak Colony police station. Police said the deceased was sitting in a police mobile when armed men opened fire on police van and fled, resultantly Afzal died on the spot. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. An activist of MQM was shot dead while other sympathisers were injured near Siddique-e-Akbar mosque, Nagan Chowrangi in the limits of New Karachi Police station.
Police said two armed motorcyclist showed up at Siddique-e-Akbar mosque, and opened fire on persons buying stuff for Iftar with the result Adeel, Faisal and Adnan received injuries. All the injured were taken to ASH for treatment where Adeel son of Hameed died during treatment. Police said the deceased was the resident of Country Tower and a worker of Unit 134.
Another worker of MQM was shot dead in Sector 11 Orangi Town in the limits of Pakistan Bazaar police station. Police said the victim Farhan Gilani 30, son of Nisar Gilani, was shot dead by armed bandits near PSO pump, while offering resistance during a robbery bid. They said the deceased was an active worker of Unit 120, Orangi Town Sector. The body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for autopsy.
Police also found body parts of an MQM activist in different parts of Lyari. Police said the unidentified accused first kidnapped him and after subjecting him to severe torture chopped off his body into pieces and threw them in separate parts of the Lyari. The deceased was later identified as Mashood Ahmed who was activist of Unit 164. In addition, a middle-aged man was gunned down by unknown armed men in Naval Colony falling in the limits of Saeedabad police station. He was identified as 40-year-old Rahim Baloch, son of Abdul Kareem Baloch.
Police said the deceased was shot and injured when he was standing near his home in Naval Colony. He was shifted to Civil Hospital, Karachi where he died during treatment. A hairdresser was gunned down by armed assailants in Yousuf Goth in the limits of Saeedabad police station.
He was identified as Shahzad Baloch, 30. The body was shifted to CHK for medico-legal formalities. A body of a man was found from inside his home in Nyaabad in the jurisdiction of Kalri police station. He was identified as Iqbal, 50, son of Mohammad Khan. Police said the victim was stabbed to death over personal enmity. The body was shifted to CHK for post-mortem.
Meanwhile a bandit was shot dead in an encounter near Farooq Azam Mosque, while his accomplices were arrested in the limits of Shahra e Noor Jahan police station. Police said two bandits looted a passer-by Muhammad Ali. A police party reached the scene and an encounter ensued in which one bandit, identified as Chawani, and his accomplices Habibullah were arrested.
Police seized two TT pistols and a motorcycle from their possession. A man was shot and injured in a firing incident in Petal Wali Gali in the limits of Gulbahar police station. He was identified as Abbas Raza, son of Aqeel Raza. He was shifted to a private hospital where the doctors declared his condition as highly critical.
