Directives issued for supply of safe water

The Comm-issioner Hyderabad Division Ahmed Bux Narejo while taking serious notice over the shortage of water and supply of contaminated water to the citizens of Hyderabad has strict directed the district administration and Water and Sanitation Agency to ensure adequate supply of safe water to the consumers.
Presiding over a meeting here at his office on Friday, the Commissioner also asked the authorities concerned to conduct water analysis time and again so that provision of safe drinking water in order to avert the threat of waterborne disease. Strict action will be taken if waterborne disease prevailed in Hyderabad as experienced in the past, he warned.
The Commissioner also directed the management of Malaria Control Programme to provide required medicines chemicals to WASA so that contaminated free water could be supplied to consumers. The Water Technologist Dr S.Ahsan Siddiqui while briefing the meeting informed that after waterborne diseases, which prevailed in the year 2004 in Hyderabad, water samples are being collected on regular basis for analysis from eight points on the directives of the court and the test results are being provided to WASA so that it could make sure the supply of contaminated free water to the citizens.
He informed that if the authorities concerned released the contaminated and saline water from Manchar Lake above from the capacity, it could be harmful for the citizens of Hyderabad. However, he said that at present WASA management is needed to just purify the water from the point where it taking water of River Indus.
