Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has said that corruption, embezzlement and plunder of rulers of Islamabad have caused despondency, unease and hatred among the people of Pakistan during the last four and a half years. He said that, in this so-called democratic system, the poor masses are yearning for their two times meals, and millions of workers have become jobless due to worst load shedding of electricity.
He said that the incompetent rulers have widened the gulf between the rich and the poor, while it has become almost impossible for the poor to keep the body and soul together. Shahbaz Sharif said that unfortunately the people have been deprived of the fruits of democracy and the rulers have only filled their pockets during the last four and a half years.
The Chief Minister was addressing Assembly Members belonging to various districts, here on Friday. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that, during the last four and a half years, the hopes, aspirations and desires of the people have died and the life of the masses has been poisoned by the antiquated system.
He said that the wave of despondency, among the masses, calls for critical thinking by the politicians as well as the elite. He noted that, because of social and economic degradation, extremism is getting stronger, which is generated by poverty and unemployment. He emphasised that those societies which do not provide social and economic justice, get decimated and the people bring incompetent and unjust rulers before the court of accountability.
He said that neither extremism can be eliminated from the society nor progress and prosperity can be achieved without provision of social and economic justice. He said that the problems, challenges and dangers being faced by the country are due to the wrong policies and corruption of the rulers.
Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said it is regrettable that injustice and cruelty is being committed against Punjab with regard to load shedding, and people become especially angry due to agonising load shedding at the time of Sehri and Iftari. He said that loans of billions of rupees are being acquired on daily basis to run the country.
Shahbaz Sharif stressed that strict accountability to eliminate loot and plunder and corruption is the need of the hour, while the obsolete system, which has failed to provide relief to the masses, should now be done away with and collective efforts should be made to achieve the goal of progress and prosperity. He pointed out that as a nation, we will all have to change our way of living. The Chief Minister also had an exchange of views with the Assembly members regarding development projects and other related issues in their constituencies.
