Salient features of 'Expo 2025' highlighted

KARACHI: Director for International Exhibitions Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan, Sugano Masafumi on Friday said that the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai would be a platform to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations by 2030.

Addressing an online briefing hosted by the International Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Japan regarding the "Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai" especially for the journalists in Asia Pacific, Masafumi said "Designing Future Society for Our Lives" is the main theme of the 184-day event which is expected to see as many as 28.2 million visitors (including 3.5 million from overseas).

"58 countries and five international organizations have confirmed their participation in the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai so far," Masafumi said.

He said "Saving Lives", "Empowering Lives" and "Connecting Lives" are the sub themes of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai which would be held in Yumeshima's artificial Island in the Osaka bay area from April 13 to October 13, 2025.

He said under the sub themes of the event, focus areas would be on fighting infectious diseases, education, utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robots, and promoting cross-cultural understanding spurring innovations.

Carbon neutrality, digital, and mobility would be the future society showcase in the event. He said that introducing carbon neutrality technology, energy optimization technology, and hydrogen energy technology would be on showcase base.

Similarly, providing futuristic entertainment combining the real and the virtual, using digital technology to adopt a state-of-the-art admission system and other means for leveling the flow of visitors, and providing visitors with hands-on-experiences of novel mobility with flying cars, which are expected to be a next generation mobility means.
