Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed on Thursday directed the departments concerned, especially the Mangla Dam Resettlement Organisation, to provide all possible residential facilities in New Mirpur City and Small towns to ensure early rehabilitation of the Mangla dam affected people.
Addressing various delegations of the Mangla dam affectees belonging to various parts of this district, including Islamgarh and Chakswari in his home constituency as well as in Mirpur on Thursday, Majeed ordered for initiating measures to ensure the supply of required building material to the affected people according to the market rates in their above mentioned new housing abodes.
It may be added that the Mangla dam affectees have launched protest demonstrations on different occasions, to press the AJK government and WAPDA for ensuring the timely completion of their rehabilitation in line with the agreement including the settlement of their extended families.
The affectees have repeatedly declared to take tooth and nail the WAPDA's decision of raising water level in Mangla dam up to the highest level of 1242 feet by the end of this year by strongly resisting the project before completion of their resettlement. Majeed reiterated that good governance will be ensured in the rehabilitation of the Mangla dam affectees within the stipulated time. He said the people inhibiting the countryside, including remote and far-flung areas of AJK, would be provided with the latest amenities of life at par with the dwellers of the urban areas.
He added that until a single Kashmiri was alive, the people of Jammu & Kashmir will not hesitate from any sacrifice for the defence of the stability and integrity of Pakistan in case of any eventuality and threats to its (Pakistan) ideological and geographical frontiers.
