LAHORE: The Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) Punjab has increased price of the 20 kilograms flour bag by Rs 50 per bag and urged the provincial food department to immediately issue a notification of the new price of the flour bag.
The 20 kilograms flour bag will be available to the consumers at Rs 1150 per bag against the previous price of Rs 1100 per bag. The millers termed the increase in the flour price as a compulsion because of increase in the prices of petrol and electricity.
PFMA Punjab Chairman Tahir Hanif Malik in a statement on Tuesday said that increase was inevitable due to increase in grinding charges, flour transportation, increase in the prices of packaging material and increase in cost of production due to increase in electricity tariff. He said that grinding charges were determined last year in the month of Ramzan but electricity, petroleum and packaging material charges had increased time and again since that day.
When contacted, Director Food Punjab Dr Omer Jahangir said that they would look in to the matter once they receive demand by the flour millers. He said there is a set method to increase grinding charges and it is approved by the cabinet committee.
