A special meeting of Central Development Working Party (CDWP) would be held today (Thursday) under the direction of Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf for approval of three projects worth Rs 18.72 billion for his constituency Tehsil Gujar Khan, it is learnt.
According to sources, the prime minister gave special directions to Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr Nadeem Ul Haq to call a special meeting of CDWP for approval of three projects in his area. For this purpose, the Deputy Chairman has called a meeting of CDWP today (Thursday).
According to agenda of the meeting made available to Business Recorder, two projects are of transport and communication and one of water resources. The projects included dualization of Sohawa-Chakwal Road (70-KM) Tehsil Gujar Khan worth Rs 3.3 billion and dualization of Mandra-Chakwal Road (64KM), Tehsil Gujar Khan, valuing Rs 2.68 billion sponsored by Housing and Works Division; and Rehabilitating of Lower Chenab Canal Project Part-B worth Rs 12.743 billion sponsored by government of Punjab.
The sources said that the CDWP would refer these projects to Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) for approval because these projects are worth more than one billion. After referring these projects, a meeting of Ecnec would soon be called for approval of these projects.
When contacted in this regard, Planning Commission Spokesman Ishfaqulla Khan confirmed that a special meeting of CDWP is being held today (Thursday) under the direction of the prime minister. He said that there are three items on agenda of the meeting. When asked to tell the name of agenda items, whether these three projects are related to the area of the prime minister, he said that he did not know about the agenda items and it would be informed today (Thursday).
