During the course of hearing of a petition challenging 686 allegedly illegal appointments in Port Qasim Authority (PQA), petitioner Abdul Jabbar Memon on Thursday told the Supreme Court that illegal appointments were still being made as the apex court's orders were not being implemented in this regard.
A two-member SC bench comprising Justice Nasirul Mulk and Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry heard the case. The petitioner told the bench that in view of the court's order he had joined Malir Development Authority as a director. However, he added, the court's orders had not been implemented in letter and in spirit by the concerned authorities as illegal appointments were still being made.
The court summoned the respondents, but it was informed that no representative of respondents was present in the court. The bench took a serious notice of absence of respondents and adjourned the hearing indefinitely. It is pertinent to mention here that deposed PQA secretary Abdul Jabbar Memon had challenged the direct appointment of Mehmood Zameer Farooqi in grade-18 as deputy secretary Port Qasim Authority. Farooqi said to be a close relative to Federal Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim. Memon was suspended for opposing Farooqi's selection.
