LAHORE: US Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs Dilawar Syed called on Governor Punjab Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman at Governor House on Monday during which detailed discussion was held on enhancing trade and investment and bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.
Regional policy lead for US International Development Finance Cooperation Gaia and Kathleen Gibilsico, Political/ Economic Chief of US Consulate were also present.
Talking on the occasion, the Governor said that Pakistan values its long standing relationship with the United States. He said that joint ventures were needed to further strengthen relations between the two countries, especially in the field of trade. He underscored the need to further enhance trade relations between the two countries, adding that there is huge potential of trade opportunities for US investors in Pakistan.
He further said that improvement in education and health sectors, resolving energy crisis and eradication of poverty are the priorities of the present government.
Governor Punjab said the current government has re-launched the ‘Women on Wheels’ project in a better way to empower women. He said that various training courses are being conducted in the Technical and Vocational Training Institute (TEVTA) for the empowerment of women.
On the occasion, US Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs Dilawar Syed said that US companies are interested in investing in various sectors including technology. He said that there are vast opportunities between Pakistan and the US to increase trade and investment.
Moreover, a delegation of Rotary International Pakistan called on Governor Punjab and discussed the ongoing polio campaign, education and other welfare issues.
The delegation was led by Dr. Shahina Asif Chaudhry and Muhammad Irfan Chaudhry. Other members of the delegation included Rada Irfan, Major (retd) Sohail Anwar, Mian Aftab Majeed, Inam-ul-Haq Pasha and Tabassum Waheed.
