Zardari, Altaf discuss situation

Chief of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussein and President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday discussed on telephone the situation emerging after the promulgation of the local government ordinance in Sindh. They also exchanged views on the overall domestic political situation.
President Zardari said that the local government system had been introduced in the entire province to solve people's problems on a priority basis and with a view to transferring power at the grass-roots level. He said that leaders of PPP and MQM had worked "day and night" for the system.
President Zardari said that the PPP would work with the MQM and other parties in the coalition for solving basic problems of the people of Sindh, national and the stability of the democracy. Altaf Hussain said that the introduction of the local government system by the elected government was a positive step. He regretted that certain elements were uselessly opposing the people-friendly system, saying that they were undermining peace in the province on this pretext. Both leaders agreed to make unified efforts for solving people's problems people and for the stability of democracy.
