Transporters in Rawalpindi observed wheel jam strike against current increase in petrol and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices, causing immense difficulties to commuters' as long queues were witnessed at different bus stops. Pakistan Transport Welfare Association has given a call for the strike across Rawalpindi district for an indefinite period against the extraordinary increase in POL prices. Hundreds of local commuters faced a lot of problems.
They said the transporters and the government are looting the poor people by increasing fares and prices of oil products. The drivers of taxi cabs and rickshaws took opportunity of the situation and started fleecing commuters by charging extra money. Massive rush of passengers including woman, girls, children and old aged people were witnessed at Kalyal, Jarahi, Ali Town, Chungi Number 20, Katcheri, 22 Number, Morgah Mor, Soan Bus Terminal, Mareer Hassan, Mareer Chowk, Moti Mehal, Committee Chowk, Benazir Bhutto Road, Saddar, GPO Chowk, Lal Kurti, Dheri Hassan Abad, Bakra Mandi, Dhoke Seydan, Raja Bazaar, Peshawar Road, Misrial Road and many other areas. Meanwhile, Muttahida Transport Union (ATU) leaders announced in a press conference held at Pirwadhai Bus Terminal that the strike would continue till September 25, 2012. They gave more time to the government to solve the problems.
