Allotment of Hajj quota: LHC summons secretary today

11 Sep, 2012

The Lahore High Court Chief Justice (CJ) on Monday summoned the Secretary Ministry of Religious Affairs for Tuesday (today) for not complying with the court orders for allotment of quota to new Hajj Group Organisers (HGOs). The CJ also directed the registrar office to consolidate all contempt petitions against officials of the ministry and fix them for hearing for Tuesday.
New HGOs through their counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique filed a petition seeking implementation of court's earlier orders. Azhar submitted the ministry was deliberately delaying the process of allotment of quota to petitioners and was not awarding the quota despite clear orders of the court.
The petitioner told the court that at least 15 contempt petitions had been filed against the secretary and officials concerned for violating the court orders, but they were still in mood to defy the directions. They, therefore, prayed to the court to get implement its orders in favour of the petitioners besides initiating contempt proceedings against official concerned.
