Pakistan Post introduces EMO service

Pakistan Post under its modernisation plan, on Monday introduced Electronic Money Order (EMO) service between eleven cities of the country through its General Post Offices (GPOs) for quick money transfer. Federal Minister for Postal Services Sardar Alhaj Muhammad Umar Gorgaij inaugurated the service at a ceremony organised here at Islamabad GPO.
The ceremony was attended by Secretary Postal Services Raja Ikram-ul-Haq, Director General Pakistan Post Syed Ghulam Panjtan Rizvi and other senior officials of the organisation. Federal Minister addressing on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Post in introducing this state of the art service at economical rates for the citizens of the country and postal customers using the latest Information Technology System.
He emphasised the desire of his government to provide affordable and modern services to the postal customers. He stressed on the officials to further improve the services within available budget. Sardar Umar Gorgaij also appealed the Finance ministry to provide required fund to Pakistan Post for further improving the services.
Director General Pakistan Post said that initially EMO service has started between eleven major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Sialkot, Peshawar, Quetta, Karachi and Hyderabad. He said the service would be interlinked with Internet.
He said this service will allow anyone to quickly transfer money within the country. Online accounts facility will make the service easy and fast. Citizens will be able to transfer up to Rs 100,000 within 30 seconds. He said that in phases this service will be extended to all 83 GPOs in the country. He said the customers can now send money up to one hundred thousands rupees for instant transmission through EMO service at very nominal charges ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 600.
He said that the sender and receiver of money order will get a confirmation SMS on booking and payment on their mobile numbers. He said the service will be expanded to more cities later and in future services will allow money transfers outside the country also. The service has launched in the following post offices, Karachi General Post Office (GPO), Karachi city GPO, Karachi Sadar GPO, Karachi Korangi GPO, Karachi New Town GPO, Karachi Haidri GPO, Lahore GPO, Lahore Cantt GPO, Faisalabad GPO, Islamabad GPO, Rawalpindi GPO, Muzaffarabad GPO, Sialkot GPO, Quetta GPO, Haiderabad GPO, Peshawar GPO and Multan GPO.
