Pakistan Airline Pilots' Association (Palpa), despite other technical analysis of the incident of PK 653 landing accident in Lahore on August 31, has suggested to the Civil Aviation Authority to immediately take following steps to avoid the incidents of this nature in future:
- Installation of a Low Level Wind Shear Alert System (LLWAS). These should be installed at all major airports in Pakistan (Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad and Quetta). With this technology the remote sensor data received is transmitted to a master station, which generates warnings when wind shear or micro burst conditions are detected. There has been no wind shear related accident on airports with installed LLWAS for over 20 years.
- Air Traffic Controller should undertake CRM workshops with pilots/crew at least once a year for better communication and standardisation among them, which can surely avoid any such accidents in future, and - The government should provide latest equipment carrying most modern technology to meet office in order to further improve weather reporting systems for accurate weather reporting.
