European Parliament: APTMA welcomes trade incentives

14 Sep, 2012

Chairman All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Mohsin Aziz has welcomed the trade incentives from the European Parliament. The European Parliament Thursday gave a go ahead to the temporary trade incentives for Pakistan, two years after its announcement made with a view to help the country recover from the massive devastation caused by widespread floods in 2010.
Chairman APTMA has expressed the hope that Pakistan's total exports to Europe could witness a boost up to $800 million to $1 billion under the above package. This exceptional measure, to apply until the end of 2013, will include fabrics, garments, linen, ethanol and leather, he added.
Chairman APTMA has also appreciated the efforts made by the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Textile Industry and other relating departments in this regard and termed it a welcoming move for the industry. However, he has pointed out that the textile industry can only be beneficial to the incentive in case it is provided with required energy, both electricity and gas on priority.
Meanwhile, Chairman Aptma has expressed deep sorrow and grief over loss of precious lives in tragic inferno in a garment factory in Karachi. He demanded a complete fact-finding of the incident, as he feared stern notice on the part of international buyers if it went unnoticed. He said Aptma stands with bereaved families and share their grief and sorrow, as human life is always precious, come what may.
