At least 15 persons were injured in a clash with police during a protest rally against blasphemous, which was organised by Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT), here on Monday. Police in riot gear resorted to baton-charge, firing in air and used water canons to disperse IJT activists when they were trying to march towards the US Consulate.
The area between Sultanabad and the US consulate remained battlefield for over three hours as enragede protesters turned violent over police restrictions. They chanted anti-US slogans and damaged several police vans by pelting stones. During clash with the law enforcers, at least 15 persons and some 20 policemen were injured and over 60 protesters arrested by Darakshan and Artillery Maiden police. Police had blocked the roads leading towards the US consulate. However, participants of the rally dispersed after offering Asr prayers near Sultanabad petrol pump. Later, the police have also released all detained persons after negotiations.
