Supreme Court urged to scrap death penalty

An application has been filed at Supreme Court Lahore Registry seeking early hearing of a pending petition against capital punishment in Pakistan. Watan Party's Barrister Zafarullah Khan said many hundred accused had been languishing in jails on death row. He submitted that prevailing corruption in the society had also overwhelmed the criminal justice system in the country whereof the chances of the innocent being declared guilty had increased manifolds.
