Dr Mohammad Yousuf Sarwar, son of renowned industrialist, elected as president of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) for next 2012-13 term, while Malik Iftikhar Ahmad Awan and Mohammad Anees also elected unopposed as vice presidents of the chamber.
In this connection, a meeting of SCCI election commission held under its member Sufi Bashir Durani here at the chamber on Tuesday. Other members, Mohammad Ishaq and Kamran Shafiq were also attended the meeting. According to election commission, it was not received any nomination papers against Dr Mohammad Yousuf Sarwar, Malik Iftikhar Ahmad Awan and Mohammad Anees after which the three candidates for president and vice presidents slot elected unopposed for next term. The election commission also issued notification in this regard.
Dr Yousuf Mohammad Sarwar, as an industrialist running a pharmaceutical company and have wide experience in trade and industries belonged to a business family. He completed his doctoral degree in 1999 from Khyber College of Dentistry and done MSC in Heath Management from City University London.
He had also completed course relating to corporate governance from Japan while representing Pakistan via Asian Productivity Organisation (APO). It was pertinent to mention here that candidates of Businessmen Forum for corporate group Malik Ahmad Awan, Zahidullah Shinwari, Nasir Musazai, and Khalid Shahzad, for Associate group Dr Mohammad Sarwar, Mohammad Asif Khan, Faiz Rasool and Gul Salam, while Town Association group Kohat Manzoor Ahmad Paracha and a reserved seat for women Mubarak Begum also elected unopposed members of SCCI executive body. The new elected president and vice presidents and rest of the members of executive committee will formally take charge on October 1.
