Punjab government stopped from transferring police officers

19 Sep, 2012

The Lahore High Court on Tuesday restrained Punjab government from sending two police officers of the province to Balochistan under a policy recently announced by federal government. The court issued this interim order in the petitions of Superintendents of Police (SPs) Masood Saleem and Imran Ahmar and sought replies from the respondents till October 2.
The petitioners through their counsel pleaded that they had already served for many years outside Punjab province. They said the government again included their names in the list of the officers to be sent to Balochistan. Opposing the petitions, a deputy attorney general argued that the transfer orders had been made in pursuance of federal government's policy and the court had no jurisdiction to intervene in government's policy matter unless mala fide was not established.
