FAISALABAD: FCCI (Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry) Standing Committee on Seeds has expressed concern over the non-clearance of consignments of imported vegetables seeds and said that delay in its release may create acute shortage of vegetables during the next season.
Addressing the Standing Committee Haji Gulzar Ahmad Executive Member FCCI said that the recent floods have washed away vegetables over a vast tract of land creating its shortage coupled with price spiral.
He said that the government had spent millions of dollars to import vegetables from neighboring countries to meet the domestic needs. He said that in view of this situation the seeds companies have now imported sufficient stock of high yielding vegetables seeds to cater to the domestic needs.
Haji Gulzar lamented that the imported consignments have been stuck up at the Karachi port due to the non-availability of dollars.
He said that sowing season for the vegetables have started and if the consignments were not released in time, the farmers would not be able to sow the vegetables which would create yet another spell of shortage in the domestic market.
