Water supply to Karachi was disrupted after a 200-foot breach caused in the Hub Canal on early Sunday. According to details, the canal was breached at about 2:00am on Sunday inundating the Hamdard University campus and its surrounding areas. The engineers of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board reached the site and started repairing work of the canal under the supervision of Acting Managing Director Ali Mohammad Palejo.
The KW&SB has also requested Wapda to halt water discharge from Hub Dam so that the areas under the water are secured. The crack is said to be about 200-foot wide and would take up to 72 hours to get repaired. Baldia Town, SITE, Mangho Pir, Orangi Town and other areas of District West are likely to face water shortage until the repair work is completed.
