Use of Presidency: full LHC bench to hear contempt petition on September 27

25 Sep, 2012

A full bench of the Lahore High will hear the contempt of court petition against President Asif Ali Zardari on September 27 for not shunning political activities despite court's orders. Earlier, a four-member larger bench of the Lahore High Court issued notice to President Zardari through his principal secretary for a reply.
The petition was moved by Munir Ahmad through Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique and Advocate AK Dogar against the President for holding political office and carrying out political activities in violation of LHC full bench order. The petitioner submitted that the use of presidency for partisan political activities by the President was not only illegal but also contempt of the orders of court dated May 12, 2011, as defined in Article 204 of the Constitution.
