Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that Haris and labourers are backbone of economy of any country and both working classes are real power of Pakistan People's Party, while the present government had fully protected the rights of working class under the programme and policies laid down in the party manifesto.
He expressed these views while reviewing the progress and performance of Sindh Labour Department at a meeting held at Chief Minister House on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas; Principal Secretary to CM Muhammad Siddique Memon, Secretary Labour department Sindh Arif Ellahi; Director Labour Sindh Eijaz Baloch, Commissioner SESSI Aijaz Memon; Registrar Tanveer Azhar Siddiqui, Assistant Commissioner Mines Aftab Shah and others.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in his tenure had first introduced Labour policy in the country aimed at to provide relief and genuine facilities to the workers of the country. He said that it is principle of Islam, that a worker is friend of Allah, as such it is our prime duty to resolve their issues and problems as the workers fully discharge their duties for benefit of people. He stressed upon officers of Labour department to provide facilities to labourers as per policies of the government, and health facilities educational facilities and other cash benefits to workers.
Provincial Labour Secretary Arif Ellahi in his detailed briefing informed that the department comprises of Sindh Workers Welfare Board, Directorate of Labour Sindh, Sindh Employees Social Security Institution, Directorate of Manpower and Training Employment Exchange, Mines, Labour Welfare Organisation, Minimum Wages Board, Labour Appellate Tribunal, and National Institute of Labour Administration Training.
He said that the mission of department is to strive for the socio-economic welfare of the workers of the province of Sindh through housing, education, financial assistance, medical care, placement, Training and enforcements of Labour laws. He informed that the workers welfare find and workers participation fund is payable by industrial units and such contributions/ collection are allocated/disbursed to provinces by the formula ie Punjab 43 percent; Sindh 42 percent; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 08 percent and Balochistan 07 percent.-PR
