SUPARCO, CSNO hold symposium on GNSS, applications

The inaugural of Symposium on "Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and its Applications and first ever international exposure of "BeiDou Navigation Satellite System was held here on Tuesday, 25 September 2012 at a local hotel.
The symposium was jointly organised by Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and China Satellite Navigation Office (CSNO), Chairman SLJPARCO, Major General (Retd) Ahmed Bilal hosted the event, while Zhang Jianxin, Consul General, China was the chief guest of the ceremony.
Chairman SUPARCO, in his welcome address said that GNSS has tremendous applications in the field of surveying and mapping, construction and deformation monitoring, transport and aviation management, mining and agriculture, computerised land management and plate tectonics studies, etc. This technology is emerging in Pakistan with great success and enormous pace.
He further said that GNSS symposium and exhibition is the first milestone for a regularised development of this technology in Pakistan. Presently serving the nation in the communication satellite applications and remote sensing applications, SUPARCO is now stretching to GNSS and its applications. SUPARCO is intended to initiate the GNSS based Continuously Operating Reference Station Network which is known as CORS Network initially as prototype very soon.
An exhibition on "BeiDou Navigation Satellite System" was also organised by China Satellite Navigation Office (CSNO). BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, developed by China is embarking to the world for the first time. Pakistan is the first stop for demonstrating its technology, applications and services.-PR
