Economy picking up moderately: governor

LAHORE: Governor Punjab, Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman said on Monday that it is a good sign that the country’s economy is picking up.

“Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar and his economic team saved the country from default and tackled the economic crisis,” he said while talking to industrialist, Mian Talat Mehmood, along with a delegation here at Governor House.

The governor said that bringing economic stability, supremacy of constitution and law and welfare of the people are among the top priorities.

He said the government is committed to the welfare of the working class while the government expects all industrialists and business community to pay the fixed wages to the workers on time. He said that a systematic plan is being worked out to permanently open the Governor House Lahore for the public.

Mian Talat Mehmood hoped that the next budget of the present government will be business friendly and will provide relief to the business community. He said that the business community will cooperate with the government on tax reforms.

Moreover, the governor while addressing a function in connection with the ‘Labour Day’ said the working class is playing a key role in the economy of the country. It is very important to provide education facilities to the working class.

Today is the day to recognize the role of the working class in the development of the country. Vocational education is very important and along with it the implementation of safety rules for the safety of workers in factories and industries is also very important.

He said that Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, in the past as Chief Minister of Punjab took steps for educating the children of kiln workers and ending child labour at brick kilns. The countries in which policies continued persistently have progressed. We should also pay tributes to the soldiers and martyrs of Pakistan Army who are rendering matchless sacrifices for the nation and the country, he added.

Caretaker Provincial Minister for Health, Dr Javed Akram, Caretaker Provincial Minister for Housing , Auqaf and Religious Affairs, Syed Azfar Ali Nasir were also present.
